Whoever coined the phrase "the lazy days of summer" did not have kids.

Wes' daily life basically consists of a succession of really awesome things (interrupted only by short bouts of eating and napping) from the moment he wakes up until his head hits the crib at night.  Rest.  Repeat.  I totally get why people say they would want to be a kid again.

Trips to the Children's Discovery Museum in Uptown Normal have become a part of our summer adventures.  So far the fan favorites are the water table and the combine simulator.

We took a trip to Springfield to go to the zoo with Grandpa Mullins. Wes loved everything except the suspicious trackless-train that kept driving children past the exhibits.

We also discovered the tot pool this summer.  As soon as we say the word pool (whether we intend to go or not), Wes runs to his changing pad, lays down, and waits to be changed into his swim trunks while simultaneously yelling "POOOOL, POOOOL."  Needless to say, Sean and I have begun testing our spelling skills with each other a little earlier than anticipated.

Wes has been introduced to the world of ice cream cones.  As Sean observed, it is literally the only food he eats that doesn't hit the ground.

With the dry summer days comes a lot of construction in our neighborhood.  The workers have a captive audience that includes Wes and the neighbor boys.  As a reward for a hard day of supervision, the crew told the boys they could check out the equipment that evening.  Best. Night. Ever.

We continue to spend hours outside playing with friends.  No one ever told me that parenting would result in such a great summer tan!

During the one heat wave we've had so far, we entertained ourselves indoors by visiting Grandpa Miller at work.  We decided to show Wes the kindergarten classroom he would attend at Hudson Elementary.  I'm not sure he's too keen on the idea quite yet...

Grandpa Miller also likes to join us on some trips to the splash pads on the weekends.  During our most recent trip, we stumbled upon a community party for S.O.A.R, a group that runs programs for people with special needs.  No one seemed to mind our tiny party crasher!

Wes continues to be as silly as ever at home.  As does Dad.  Sometimes I just need a little more estrogen around here.  (Note: videos on Blogger do not play on Apple devices.  If you are using an iPhone or iPad, rest assured that Wes is being adorable and Sean is embarrassing himself and his wife.)
