Today we did a whole lot of normal things! The past 4 months haven't exactly been a portrait of normalcy around here. Bed rest for two and a half weeks, labor/delivery, getting used to a newborn, minimal sleep, and figuring out how to balance baby, work, and home responsibilities have all taken a toll on our sanity. Today was one of the first days we could feel like our lives were somewhat similar to those of other families we know.
We started off the day by sleeping in until 7A.M. (although we were up at 3 A.M. with the little man, but still...). Once we were up and going, we headed to the Coffee Hound in Uptown Normal for some lattes and scones. Wes seems to love the Coffee Hound as much as Mom!
Later in the day we gathered up the courage to go to Wal Mart for some groceries (perhaps it had been over 15 weeks since we really went grocery shopping...and our bill reflected that!). Wes fell asleep shortly after entering the store (because who doesn't want to shut their eyes and sleep through a trip to Wal Mart on a Saturday afternoon one week before Christmas?!), and then continued to nap for a total of 3 hours! Upon waking, he was hamming it up on the couch with Dad.
Finally, we went next door for pizza, and Wes got to hang out with his hospital buddy Ben. We believe those two have some secret baby monitor scheming going on, as every time Ben decides to have a fussy night, Wes does too.
We need days like these once in awhile to reassure ourselves that we really can do this. We have our fingers crossed that tomorrow will bring some of the same!
