A Pretty Good Ordinary

This is the time of year when everything is simply...ordinary.  Most days are fairly routine, and we spend much of our time at home and in the house.  But we have managed to find fun in rediscovering old toys, working around the house, and watching far more cartoons than recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

January did bring our first substantial snowfall, and it proved to be absolute bliss for a kiddo who loves working outdoors.

The dogs join in the fun but also spend much of the day hibernating.  Maisy has done a great job assimilating into our family, and most of the time, we need to do a tail check to figure out which dog is which.

January began with a cold streak which resulted in a few days off for Sean as well as a lot of hours in the house for all of us.  We entertained ourselves with some craft projects, and Wes was happy to grab a paintbrush and participate.  We also learned that the best way to keep a 3 year old from getting paint on his clothing was to remove it completely.

Grandpa Miller works just a few minutes from home, so we will occasionally bring him lunch and play with the gadgets in his office.  So far Wes' favorite is the bar code scanner.

Often we venture to one of the local libraries in town to refresh our reading material.  Wes has never been a big fan of story times (too many peoples!), but he has managed to find some buddies with whom he's willing to share a story...

We don't get to see our real-life buddies nearly as often as we'd like, but we did get together for the a Super Bowl party where we snacked, played, and watched the halftime show.

It really has been a decent winter thus far.  We are lucky to have been in good health, and we go to bed every night in a warm house.  It is nice to slow down and spend time together in ways that are easily overlooked in the busier, warmer months.  I'm certain, however, that no one will be complaining the day we can run outside and play after dinner :)
