A Winter of a Few Firsts

Winters go slowly around here, no doubt.  But at least this particular one included a few "firsts" for Wes.

The biggest event of the past few months was Wes' first day of preschool.  Wes has an early September birthday, so we have nearly an entire extra year before he officially starts kindergarten.  Because of this, we have been in no particular hurry to start preschool.  This past January, we enrolled Wes in a 2-morning/week preschool called Little Lambs, and it has been a gigantic success.  It's no secret that Wes has always been a bit shy and hesitant to separate from us, but he only shed a few tears (likely fewer than me) before immersing himself in what is ending up to be a great classroom experience.

Mrs. Anderson sent me this picture about 45 minutes into his first day.
It was exactly what I needed that morning.

Wes' preschool is conveniently next door to a local diner/ice cream shop.
We met Dad for lunch after that first day.

Another big event of the winter was Wes' first train ride.  We took the Amtrak down to Springfield to visit Grandma Mullins for the day.  A year ago, Wes would have been terrified to do so, but this year he was ready and excited.

While in Spingfield, we visited a park which also is home to Sean's old preschool.
It was fun to see Wes playing on the same equipment that Dad did nearly 30 years ago.

Wes also visited the dentist for the first time and rocked it.  His favorite part?  The travel-sized tube of toothpaste he scored upon completion of his exam.  Keep finding joy in the simple things, kiddo :)

The rest of the winter has been full of the usual: playing outside as often as the wind chills allow, puttering around in the kitchen, taking an occasional snooze, and being entertained by electronics far more often than doctor approved.

With warmer weather approaching, our local ice cream shops are starting to reopen.  And we have no shame in visiting each one on opening day.
