Let's Do This, Summer.

In our family, we live for the summer months.  Sean doesn't have to go to work, Wes is off from school, and our days are wide open to fill with whatever shenanigans we desire.

Wes' last day of preschool was a milestone for all of us. He really did well adjusting to preschool (I'd like to think it's because I put forth a good two years worry about how he'd transition to school...you're welcome, son). The last days of school were filled with field trips, treats, and a bit of tugging at Mom's heartstrings.

Great kids

Silly kids

With fewer things on our schedule, we have more time to focus on baseball.  Lots of it.  All the time.

Over Memorial Day weekend we took a road trip to Ankeny to visit Uncle Brian and Aunt Jodi.  Highlights of the trip include a trip to the Des Moines Science Center, running the bases after an Iowa Cubs game, and using their hot tub as a miniature swimming pool.

Science!

Hello, Cubby Bear

Shortly after returning home from Des Moines, we took the train up to Chicago for a day.  My sister had given us tickets to Sears Willis Tower for Christmas, so Wes was able to experience a skyscraper for the first time.  We also went to Navy Pier and the Children's Museum.  I suspect, however, that Wes' favorite part was feeding the pigeons in the park.

We also had the chance to hang out with my sister and her husband when they came to visit.  We played a lot of baseball, visited the forest, went to a local baseball game, and adopted the persona of "Grumpy Ump".

Most of our days, however, have been spent either at the pool or with friends.  We spent an evening at Lake Bloomington with our buddies, and Wes went on his first boat ride.

Wes gathered the courage this year to go down the kid slides at the pool.  He also is perfecting his "diving catch" of a baseball in the tot pool (with knee scrapes to prove it).

Every night we go to bed so tired, yet every morning we wake up excited for whatever adventures are ahead.
