We Did It!!

It's official: We are DONE with the helmet!  We went to the final appointment this week where Wes' head was scanned in order to evaluate his overall change.  He had been out of the helmet for the past 3 weeks, and so long as there was no substantial regression in his head shape, we would be sent home to enjoy life without cranial molding.  Below are some before and after pictures.  We are beyond impressed with how well the helmet works.  Was it hard?  Heck yes. We hated it.  Would we do it again or recommend it to someone else?  Absolutely.

Birds-eye view of adorable!

Wes' (adorable) conehead in February

Egghead maybe, but no conehead!

Wes also had a bit different approach to the scan this time as well.  He was not the babbling, giggling baby that every parent wishes for at the doctor's office, but he certainly did a bit better at containing his screams this time around.

Nothing is more entertaining than an entire
roll of examination table paper!
Most impressive to us science nerds are the images produced by the scan.  We cannot believe the dramatic change that occurred in a little under 4 months.  He started with a 19mm asymmetry and ended with a 5mm asymmetry.  Way to go bud!

the stocking cap)

What a relief that we are done!  Wes has been continuing to enjoy the summer by napping for 30 minutes at a time and waking up at 5:30 in the morning.  Who would want to miss out on all of the fun things that are happening in this world!?

Wes has been starting to experiment with some solid foods.  He has become more difficult to feed, as he has decided that green beans are awful (we know this because of the green bean raspberries that immediately follow the spoonful into his mouth) and that he doesn't always like mom to feed him with a spoon (we know that by the amount of pureed food that hits the floor).  One of his newest ventures is eating fresh fruit from a mesh holder (to our microbiologist friends out there, please don't comment).

Solid foods have also become easier to eat now that Wes has two pearly whites!  We like to believe his top incisors are coming in as well, but mostly we just need an excuse for crabby behavior.

But every time we start to wonder if Wes will ever be the "happy" baby people always brag about, he goes and becomes all sorts of adorable.
