Who Wants to Read?

In the last few weeks, Wes has discovered his newest source of entertainment: books!  We have enough books laying around to cover our entire floor, and we oftentimes borrow upwards of twenty or so new ones every few weeks from the library.  At first, this was for our own amusement.  If Wes was going to take a long time to fall asleep for a nap, we might as well read out loud to keep ourselves entertained.  Plus, the Normal Public Library happens to be a few blocks away from the Coffee Hound and Chill Out Yogurt, so trips to the library may sometimes have an ulterior motive.  Regardless, Wes has really taken an interest in the cardboard pages of his baby books.

His absolute favorite book is called Freight Train by Donald Crews.  He will search it out of a pile, stare at you with wide eyes, and sit completely enthralled on your lap as you read it one, two, five, ten...times in a row.  It's like he's hearing it for the first time each time we read the story.  Side note: we are now all experts on hopper cars, gondola cars, cattle cars, tanker cars...you get the idea.

Wes' favorite thing to do with Grandpa is read Freight Train.

Grandpa's sound effects are the best.

A few days ago, we were playing with Wes in the family room.  I can't remember exactly what we were doing, but Wes decided that he had enough of Mom and Dad.  He crawled next to the recliner, grabbed a book from his pile, and proceeded to have some quiet page-turning time by himself.

He also surprised us the other day by narrating his book while we were busy in the kitchen.  Be sure to turn up your volume for this one!

Finally, his love for books has made its way to the bathtub.  Although hard to find, we have managed to collect a few bath books.  Lately, however, he has figured out that bath books also make larger splashes than his hands alone.
