Clearly our next logical move was to buy him a stop sign decal for his room for hours (which in baby time means seconds) of entertainment!
Wes also continues to enjoy his trips to home improvement stores (and despise trips to the grocery store). We totally rocked Wes' world the other night when we discovered the race car carts at both Menards and Home Depot.
But a guy can only sit still for so long. Perhaps one of the best moments of Wes' 365 days in this world was when we took him to school on his birthday to burn off some of the sugar high of his cake.
Even at a year old, I continue to receive unsolicited comments about parenting from strangers. The other day I took Wes to Bergners to buy a pair of fleece pj's for him, as I had a small gift card to use. As I was waiting in line to check out, a grandma/grandpa pair start talking to Wes and grabbing his toes. In the oh-so-adorable baby talk, they proceeded to tell him that his "piggies" were out and he should be wearing shoes. Oh geez, I was out of my league at Bergners. I decided I should either 1) stick to shopping at Wal Mart where shoes seem to be optional or 2) buy this poor kid a pair of shoes. So what did I do? I went to Wal Mart and bought him shoes. They're puppies. And fascinating.
We're soaking up all the warm days we can before winter arrives. Wes seems to really enjoy swinging in our neighbors' backyards. And he's only thrown-up once afterward!
I think one of the things I'll miss the most when Wes is older is his baby hands. They are so dang cute and show up at the best times.
I'll also miss the gigantic smile I get when I walk in his room in the morning. I'm pretty sure that one isn't going to last forever (or maybe not for even another year), but for now, I like knowing that he thinks I'm awesome.
Little does he know, however, that before he wakes up, we're watching him on our iPad like obsessive first-time parents while he sleeps (or not).
Wes has managed to find all sorts of mischief in the house now that he is a speed-crawler. If he can take it apart, undo it, or disorganize it, Wes is bound to enjoy doing it.
Because of Wes' curiosity, we have had to pick up Bear's bowls when Wes is awake and crawling around. Bear has had to adjust from having a 24 hour buffet to only having her food down for a few hours each day. As a result, she has resorted to eating anything that falls on the floor. Including vegetables...which she hates. Sorry Bear!
The best place to be mischievous, for both Wes and Mom, is the makeshift ball-pit in our basement. Seriously, we work hard around here. Really.
