Here's how it went...
We arrive at the office and are eventually called back to try on the helmet for the first time. It doesn't fit quite right. Wes lets everyone in the building know.
The doctor (extremely nice guy, by the way) uses a permanent marker to draw out some changes to the helmet and takes it to the back to reshape it. Wes is still letting the office know that the helmet didn't fit correctly.
Helmet take two: still doesn't fit quite right (you guessed it, Wes let everyone know).
Third time's the charm! Wes was either extremely defeated or the helmet actually fit. We like to believe the latter. We were even able to tease a smile out of him!
Down the hall another baby was getting his helmet for the first time. There was a ridiculous amount cooing and giggling coming out of their room. We kid you not, a nurse even said "that is just the best giggle ever!" Wes is probably cuter anyway...
We were instructed to only keep the helmet on Wes for an hour today so that we can evaluate its fit by looking for any red marks on his head. Tomorrow we'll try it for a few more hours, and in a few days he'll be in it 23 hours a day. We're a bit nervous about how it will all pan out, but so far it hasn't been too bad.
After a long afternoon we came home and had some heart-shaped pizza for dinner. Wes played on the floor (likely reversing any progess made with the helmet today!) and jumped in his jumparoo. He ended the day by throwing up on mom and peeing in the bathtub. Happy Valentine's Day everybody!
