Wes also went to the library for the first time this weekend to check out the selection of board books. Little did we know that it was "El Dia de Los Ninos," and every parent and child in the twin cities would be there. Wes and Mom did manage to snag a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar before Dad was ever able to snag a parking spot. On the way home we had to pick up a few groceries, so Wes had his first ride in a grocery cart (and every customer at Schnucks likely rolled their eyes at these first-time parents).
Over Easter weekend, Wesley got to hang out with his Uncle Brian. We definitely think Wes looks like Brian did as a baby. Both Wes and Brian seem to enjoy chillin' out together. Wes also loves receiving surprise packages from his Aunt Jodi in the mail!
Even though we were blessed with some pretty nice weather earlier this spring, we have had our share of cold, windy days as well. On days when Wes can't go outside to play with his neighbor buddies Ben, Noah, and Lauryn, he likes to play in Brian's old wagon in Grandma and Grandpa Miller's basement. We like to think Bear enjoys this too.
Last Tuesday we went to the helmet doctor for a monthly check-up. Dr. Sarva had previously hinted that we might be able to get rid of the helmet this time, so we had our hopes pretty high going into this appointment. Wes' head has gone from a 19mm asymmetry (measure diagonally from each eye to the back of the head) to a 4mm difference! We are so happy with how it looks; unfortunately, we need to wait one more month to make sure things are really in place before Wes can gain cranial freedom. We were pretty disappointed to say the least. In the meantime, however, we are getting ready for the big day (May 22, by the way) by seeing what other head gear is out there.
Wes also had his evaluation by Easter Seals. He does qualify for physical therapy services. He still does not have the appropriate range of motion in his neck due to tortocollis, and he is not successful at rolling over. We have heard nothing but great things about the Easter Seals program in Bloomington-Normal, so even though his qualification left us with mixed feelings, we know he will have outstanding care.
Wes continues to make us laugh every day. Meals have become pretty fun now that he is eating a wider range of foods as well as learning how to hold food in his hands. When he finishes eating, he has recently discovered he can really get a reaction out of us by dancing at the dinner table.
Finally, we still enjoy ending each day with a bath. Wes likes to play with his toys and splash water out of the tub onto Mom and Dad. And every child needs an embarrassing bath picture (and by that, I also mean video), right?

I'm just dropping by today to wish you well on your new adventure!
I hear helmet planters are all the rage in landscaping this summer.
